Tousled Melbourne rocker Wesley Fuller has announced details of his debut EP, as well as releasing a video for his new single ‘Runaway Renee’.

Apparently inspired by a girl who hooked up with one of his bandmates, ‘Runaway Renee’ steeps itself in lo-fi ’60s psychedelics, Fuller’s crisp, melodic swoon bathed in enough reverb to kill an elephant. With shades of Beatles, Bolan and more in between, ‘Runaway Renee’ glides along on a West Coast-indebted groove, a Darwin Deez-esque guitar motif and a gloriously sun-drenched vocal.

Written during a balmy summer night, that feeling of sticky suburbia permeates throughout the song’s squelchy beats and punishing snares. With Australia continuing to produce some fine bands and artists – Courtney Barnett, The Goon Sax and Tiny Little Houses, to name but three – Wesley Fuller is another demonstration of Down Under’s cultural clout.

Fuller has already won a raft of plaudits, not least for his previous single, the crunchy pop of ‘Melvista’. After signing a deal with 1965 Records, the Antipodean frontman has announced details of his forthcoming five-track EP, which will be released on Friday 8 July. The tracklisting is as follows:

1). Change Your Mind

2). Melvista

3). Runaway Renee

4). Shock Me

5). The Dancer
