Melt Yourself Down – Another Weapon

Limited 7″

5th August 2016

(Speedy Wunderground)

The ever groundbreaking and innovative label Speedy Wunderground release their 18th single, ‘Another Weapon’ by Melt Yourself Down on 5th August 2016. Available as a limited edition 7”, the single is backed by ‘Mr Dan’s Another Dub’. Melt Yourself Down are Kushal Gaya (vocals), Ruth Goller (bass), Shabaka Hutchings (saxophone), Satin Singh (percussion), Tom Skinner (drums) and Pete Wareham (saxophone). This single marks their first release since their critically acclaimed studio second long player ‘Last Evenings On Earth’ released in April 2016.

According to the band, ‘Another Weapon’ was one of the first songs they wrote after the release of the first album, and they have been playing it live since then. Kush said “it was the most comfortable he’s ever felt in the studio” (largely thanks to a battered old PA system he was singing through). This track is fab. It’s so funky and SKA influenced, but it has a real Post Punk feel to it too. In fact, Melt Yourself Down could easily pass for an early 80s No Wave band a la Liquid Liquid or The Contortions. They are shouty and spasmodic and the instrumentation and sound is BIG and funky, yet there is a heart and soul to MYD that really ingratiates one to them. This song will genuinely put a smile on your face. In fact, try standing still whilst listening to it too. It’s impossible. This track is great.

Melt Yourself Down can be contacted via their website, Bandcamp and their Facebook page.
