Team Picture – CLASSIC:M
DL
Out now
Louder Than War’s Ioan Humphreys has a listen to some fuzzy, scuzzy, noisy alt rock from Leeds.
Team Picture follow up the critical acclaim that greeted debut release Birthday Blues earlier this year with CLASSIC:M. These Leeds based five-piece alt-rockers returned to the studio and set to work recording this, their eagerly anticipated follow-up single.
Starting off with a deep, throbbing bassy guitar with loads of echo and reverb, this has lots of welcome echoes of JAMC and good old fashioned psychobilly. Bloody hell this lot like to make a racket, especially when the next layers of guitars come in and are bolstered by the female backing vocals. More layers of sound come from the keyboards with some freak out experimentation akin to early Pink Floyd. Half way through, the guitar (or keyboard?) noise produces a lovely rif and suddenly the cacophony starts to make sense!
Then the song is over before you know it. However, the tune keeps flying around ones head for a while after. Especially the yelping backing vocals.
I really want to hear more of this lot. It’s the most exciting 2.20 minutes i’ve had for a while! Just don’t tell my GF yeah?……
