The brilliant Weaves tear the roof off Think Tank tonight with an impressive set filled with dazzling pop tracks!
They’re a band who still retain the title as being one of the most underrated bands around, Weaves have an infectious energy and an incredible pop sensibility. Their second album Wide Open picks up where their self-titled debut left off, ecstatic pop energy mixed with sincerity and passion. However, live they are even better, as their enthusiasm and abilities are conveyed so well.
Tonight they arrive in Newcastle full of that Weaves magic, opening with #53 it sets a rousing pace for their set. Jasmyn’s voice is as captivating as ever as the crowd hang from her every word, her heartfelt words piercing through the wall of bright guitar. Their newer tracks possess a much heavier sound but there is still that sense of excitement about everything.
The likes of Motherfucker pitted against the equally exquisite Shithole for instance, both tracks prove to be highlights in this emphatic set. Weaves have a very distinct and individual style, they’re unlike the majority of polished pop nonsense yet they still have a plethora of hooks and catchy choruses. The swagger of Slicked is true pop perfection as Jasmyn swaggers around the stage, while the guys retain the upbeat track.
Closing out on a couple of old favourites with One More and Two Oceans, there is an undoubtedly evident love across the room tonight for these guys. They’re welcomes back on stage and treat us to an excellent rendition of Birds & Bees which has everyone screaming a long to it. However, they close out on a very unlikely cover of The Who’s My Generation which is arguably one of the best I’ve heard in a long time.
Their undeniable energy, excitement and enthusiasm is what really sets tonight’s set alive though, this quartet proving once again why they’re one of the most underrated bands around. Their pop sensibility their musicality and their overall demeanour is just brilliant, a truly brilliant evening.
